The role of magnesium in the soil:

Magnesium is the central core of the chlorophyll molecule in plant tissue. Thus, if Mg is deficient, the shortage of chlorophyll results in poor and stunted plant growth. Magnesium also helps to activate specific enzyme that helps to build, modify, or break down compounds of a plant's normal metabolism.

Magnesium Sulfate uses in agriculture:

Chlorophyll as a plant pigment produces green color and carries photosynthesis. Magnesium has a great impact on the metabolism of carbon, nitrogen, fat, and plant oxidation. Also, the presence of magnesium increases the life of the plant's fruit.

The loss of a healthy green color can be the first indication of Mg deficiency. Color loss reflects the shortage of chlorophyll in the plant. As the deficiency becomes more severe, the area between the veins of the leaves becomes yellow while the veins stay green.

Since most plants require sulfate, the common form of the magnesium element is magnesium sulfate heptahydrate with 9.6% of magnesium and 36% of magnesium oxide. Magnesium sulfate fertilizer is suitable for acidic soil, washed soil (soil that has lost its salts and minerals due to rain) and sandy soil.

Usages & Maintenance:

• Magnesium can be toxic to sheep. Do not allow animals to eat or drink the manganese sulfate powder.

• Know the volume of the hoof bath and calculate the amount of magnesium sulfate carefully.

• Do not overdose by using more magnesium sulfate than what is recommended by your veterinarian.
